    Contribution of Asha Bhaban Centre towards Helping A Disabled Girl Achieve Her Dreams

    Mukhreja Khatun, a girl with 80% Loco-motor disability belongs to a poor minority Muslim family in Krishnapur village under Purba Medinipur District. In her childhood, Mukhreja had lost her mother.

    Her father, Murtej Ali, a mason re-married and toiled hard to earn money to maintain the family expenses of eight members.

    Since her childhood, Mukhreja was keen on continuing her school education. Her father was able to manage her educational expenses up to class-VIII. Later on, Mukhreja’s father expressed his inability to provide further financial support for her education. Feeling that her life is becoming a challenge, Mukhreja took resort to work as domestic help to families to earn some money for continuing her education.

    In the course of time, she passed the class ten examinations. At this juncture, a field worker of the Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) project of Asha Bhavan Centre came to know of Mukhreja Khatun and about her aspirations, her fight inquest of her education. Hearing all these our Chief Patron, Dr. Shankar Nath Mukherjee extended his hands to support Mukhrejaeducation under the Sadhana Sponsorship Program. Mukhrehja then used to live in her elder sister's house in a neighboring village. Meanwhile, SadhanaSponsorship Program appraised their valued donor, Mr. Partha Mukherjee, who was charmed with the indomitable will power of Mukhreja, understood the special needs of the girl and extended gracious support for her higher education. This help triggered her ambition and gradually she completed her post-graduate (Master of Arts in Anthropology) with CGPA-7.17. During her Master's degree course, Mukhreja is able to qualify in the NET examination that built up her confidence, and at present, she is preparing to pursue a Ph.D. in Anthropology.

    Mukjreja and inspiration of all Special Needs girls of rural marginalized communities are pleased with her progress in education. She expressed heartfelt gratitude to the organization and her sponsor Mr. Partha Mukherjee for helping her in gaining a respectable space in society.
