Steps To Elevate The Condition Of Rural Education In India

According to some estimates, 70% of India still resides in rural areas. As a result, the majority of India's population also resides in villages. The majority of amenities and infrastructure resources are concentrated in urban areas, according to data on resource distribution between rural and urban areas. This also includes the concentration of educational institutions, from elementary to post-secondary levels. There aren't enough teachers for schools to function effectively, even in some rural locations. This contributes to a decline in the standard of education delivered in rural areas. If the quality of education that’s being imparted remains low in rural India, it can affect the future development of India as a whole. Raising the level of education provided is essential to closing the gap between rural and urban India. What steps can we take to improve the standard of education being delivered, then?

1. Building Infrastructures:

One of the biggest setbacks that are faced by the rural education sector in India is the lack of proper infrastructure. While there is a certain degree of improvement, more and more primary schools are being set up, but that’s not enough. There’s a difference between raising the number of literates and the number of erudite. Imparting basic primary education certainly increases the literacy rate, but only primary education is not enough in today’s day and age. At least, complete schooling education is required for a person’s overall development. This can only be possible when secondary and senior secondary schools are also set up within the geographic reach of every village.

2. Make-Shift Schools:

Many social, economic, and political restrictions persist in rural India. These limitations erect obstacles that restrict a child's access to educational institutions. These stigmas and limitations mostly prevent girls from obtaining an education. But even if the child is unable to get there, the school can still find them. This can be accomplished by establishing temporary schools. These temporary schools can be established by NGOs with volunteer teachers; they don't necessarily have to be government initiatives to provide education in rural India.

3. Enrich Existing Schools With Technology & Apparatus:

One of the biggest set back for rural education in India is the limited penetration of technology and apparatus in these schools. While some degree of education can be imparted without the inclusion of technology and apparatus, advanced education can not. To teach science and computer, you must have access to laboratory apparatus and computers. If schools can get access to these types of equipment then the quality of education that is being imparted can be elevated by multi-folds.

4. Introduction Of Newer Curriculum:

Another important aspect that can play its part in improving the quality of education that’s being imparted in rural India is through upgrading the curriculum. In various schools, the curriculum that’s being taught hasn’t been updated. Which makes learning difficult and the lesson that’s being taught outdated. This is why it is important to upgrade the curriculum.

These are just a few of the many actions that the government, local authorities, NGOs, and even volunteers may take to raise the standard of education in rural India. The urban-rural divide may be bridged and India's economy can grow significantly if more youngsters in rural areas have access to high-quality education.
