How To Bridge The Gap Between Rural and Urban Education Systems?

The education system that exists in rural and urban India is wildly different from one another. This is because of the location they are situated in. While urban schools offer a higher quality of education to their pupils, on the other hand, rural schools are in a disadvantageous position. The gap between the quality of education in rural versus urban schools has grown a lot, to curb the differences between the urban and rural education system, NGOs are doing a lot. Here’s what more can be done to bridge the gap between the education system in rural India and urban India:

Quality Teachers:

One of the jarring differences that creates a gap between the rural and urban education system in India is the pool of teachers. The quality and quantity of teachers available in Urban areas help raise the quality of education that is generally imparted in urban schools. Compared to urban areas, rural Indian school faces a huge crisis in terms of quality and quantity of teachers. Owing to the lack of quality teachers, the education that is imparted to students somewhat lacks substance. This is a point of difference that should be worked on more to bridge the gap between the rural and urban education systems in India.

Infrastructural Changes:

Education can indeed be imparted anywhere. However, the quality of education can change drastically when supported by the right infrastructural changes. Since urban schools have all infrastructural facilities and even more amenities, the quality of education that is provided is much superior compared to rural counterparts. In the rural education system in India, the lack of infrastructure pushes it behind. This is another aspect which needs to be developed to bridge the gap between the rural and urban education systems in India

The Dropout Rates:

If you compare the sheer number of dropout rates in the urban versus rural education system in India, you will witness the contrast between the two. In rural India, the dropout rate is much higher compared to its urban counterpart. The dropout rate is higher in rural India because of varied reasons be it the geographical distance to the schools, gender discrimination or lack of higher education institutes. All these factors play a huge role in increasing the dropout rate. Thus, to bridge the difference between urban and rural education systems in India, it is essential to bring down the dropout rates.

These are some of the many factors that play a role in deepening the gap between rural and urban education systems. Thus, to bridge the gap between the two education systems existing in India, it is necessary to work on these factors. It helps close the gap to a certain extent before parity can be achieved between the two.
