Support required for special school furniture and equipments

Education is the fourth necessity for human beings after food, clothing and home in today’s competitive world. Education is indeed a powerful tool to combat the cut-throat competition that man is faced with at every stage in life. The education not only impacts on human development and economic growth, but also is the fundamental requirement of democracy. Through education people become more responsible and informed citizens and have a voice in politics and society, which is essential for sustaining democracy.

Special education is the education of students with special needs in a way that addresses the students’ individual differences and needs. Ideally, this process involves the individually planned and systematically monitored arrangement of teaching procedures. Most children with special education need to have needs met in a main stream school.

India has some forty to eighty million people living with disability; among them 30 % children are below the age of fourteen years. In India 90% of disabled children do not get any form of schooling. There are number of families which are living below the poverty and many families have to make choices about, which of their kids they can afford to send to school. Parents of disabled children have more difficult choices, as they also have the burden of medical treatment and others.

Today there are few special schools in India and very few schools have resource rooms and employ special educators to help the children with special needs in their system. The Sarva Siskha Mission project, which is implementing by the Government, is no doubt a new ray of hope to the children with special need but the strategy of integration cannot serve the all. That implies the necessity of special school. Our school will serve 200 children in each academic session.

Objectives

  • To be broader than formal schooling. It includes the home, the community, non-formal and informal systems.
  • To acknowledge that all children can learn. Enables education structures, systems and methodologies to meet the needs of all children.
  • To acknowledge and respect differences in children; age, gender, ethnicity, language and disability status etc.
  • To be a dynamic process this is constantly evolving according to the culture and context.
  • To be a part of a wider strategy to promote an inclusive society.
  • To enable themselves for ensure their rights.

Target Beneficiaries

With this project we include the children with special needs that is -

  • Children with mentally challenged.
  • Children with Cerebral Palsy.
  • Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder
  • Children with Hearing Impairment.
  • Children with Multiple Disabilities.

What a class room environment will be

There are many practical strategies that are effective in the classroom. It is up to the classroom and special education teacher to ensure that appropriate strategies are being used in the classroom to assist individual learning styles and provide success to all students with special needs. It is a multi-model approach be used, visual, auditory, kinesthetic and tactile for optimum success.

Classroom Environment will be

  • Provide the use of a study carrel when necessary.
  • Seat student in area free from distractions
  • Eliminate all unnecessary materials from student desk to reduce distractions.
  • Use a checklist to help student get organized.
  • Keep an extra supply of pencils, pens, books and paper in the classroom.
  • May have to allow the student frequent breaks.
  • Have an agreed upon cue for student to leave the classroom.
  • Will be Reduce visual distractions in the classroom.

What is Hearing Impairment?

The term hearing impairment is usually reserved for people who have relative insensitivity to sound in the speech frequencies. The severity of a hearing loss is categorized according to the increase in volume that must be made above the usual level before the listener can detect it. In profound deafness, even the loudest sounds that can be produced by an audiometer (an instrument used to measure hearing) may not be detected.

Hearing impairments are categorized by their type (conductive, sensorneural, or both), by their severity, and by the age of onset. Furthermore, a hearing impairment may exist in only one ear (unilateral) or in both ears (bilateral).

A conductive hearing impairment is an impairment resulting from dysfunction in any of the mechanisms that normally conduct sound waves through the outer ear, the eardrum or the bones of the middle ear.

A sensorineural hearing impairment is one resulting from dysfunction in the inner ear, especially the cochlea where sound vibrations are converted into neural signals, or in any part of the brain that subsequently processes these signals.

The severity of a hearing impairment is ranked according to the additional intensity above a nominal threshold that a sound must be before being detected by an individual; it is (measured in decibels of hearing loss, or dB HL). Hearing impairment may be ranked as mild, moderate, moderately severe, severe or profound as defined below:

  • Mild:

    • for adults: between 26 and 40 dB HL
    • for children: between 20 and 40 dB HL

  • Moderate: between 41 and 55 dB HL
  • Moderately severe: between 56 and 70 dB HL
  • Severe: between 71 and 90 dB HL
  • Profound: 90 dB HL or greater

Hearing sensitivity varies according to the frequency of sounds. To take this into account, hearing sensitivity can be measured for a range of frequencies and plotted on an audiogram.

Special school for hearing impaired children

  • Group Hearing Aids for each Class Room - This is a hearing system where all students will get same audio output during class.
  • Individual Hearing Aids - This is to enhance the capacity of hearing and as a compensate for hearing loss.
  • Furniture for seating arrangement - A good setting arrangement of students and teachers where all students can look and follow the teacher.
  • Teaching Learning Materials - The materials will be use to learn the students according to there level and to develop a concrete sense of learning.
  • Individual luggage place for students - Multi secession Elmira will be use to keep the individual materials kit of each students in their class room.
  • Toys - To be use for the children of early child education and pre school class.
  • Materials for ear molding - To take impression and prepare of ear mould.

Room interior Decoration:-

  • A fully sound proof room for Audiometric test.
  • Class room decoration.
  • Speech therapy room decoration.
