Dominique Lapierre Home For Children With Disabilities, Kathila

Children with disability from the poor family who required intensive care services can come to our residential care and cure services, where they get comprehensive services for their overall development and they thrive for their optimum development. We offer this service for children up to 18 years and then we place them in the community by arranging for them pre-vocational and vocational training programs and also income generating activities based on their abilities and attitudes.

Asha Bhavan Centre have designed need-based innovative facilities to make the premises barrier-free. The total area of this campus is 285 Decimal Land 17.5% Building 82.5% open Sky. The ramps of standard designs, accompanied by unobstructed steps which are slip resistant and made of non-reflective surface material, handrails, wide doors with color contrast for easy identification by low-vision persons have been constructed. A barrier- free amusement park without-door safety and easy accessible play equipment has been created. A bus with hydraulic system to lift the wheelchairs/crutches has been put on service for school goers. Signs, access symbols, hand grabs and proper light systems have been ensured. The organisation has provided especially accessible adaptive devices viz. arro-tricycle, special chairs for Cerebral palsy children and specialized sitting system for the Persons with Disabilities (Divyaangjan). The organization was honored with West Bengal State Award- 2014 for creation of barrier-free environment for Persons with Disabilities (Divyaangjan), Spandan (Special Performance) Award 2012-13 by the National Trust and best Institution working for the cause of PwDs 2013 by The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.

The residential home is registered as Child Care Institution (CCI) for 300 Girls Children with Special Need under the Juvenile Justice (care and protection of children) act, 2015 at Vill- Kathila, P.O.: Banitabla, P.S.: Uluberia, Dist.: Howrah, Pin 711316. This CCI provide rehabilitation services full-time throughout the year to foster the rehabilitation programme for girls children with disabilities. Through a multidisciplinary approach and individually based programme we are improving the quality of life for women with disabilities.
