ORTHOPAEDIC WORKSHOP:

There are many important aids and appliances that compliment corrective surgeries for improving locomotor abilities in disabled persons. Such instruments that ensures better mobility need constant maintenance, keeping in pace with child’s growth and capacity to handle. Asha Bhavan reaches thousands of children through residential and community services and thus has a huge demand for aids and appliances. The current producers in the region do not have the capacity to serve Asha Bhavan, let alone the needs of the people in the state. Thus, it was logical for Asha Bhavan to venture into its production unit.

Objective of the Orthopedic Workshop is to produce high quality aids and appliances including calipers for physically handicapped children. The challenge is to make cost effective produces. The workshop has installed some of the state or art equipment and has started production since May 2005. The workshop produces high quality aids and appliances from Artificial Limb (Jaipur Limb) to Body Brace and Knee caps to clutches. Till date, they have served over 700 disabled children and the production is currently at the levels to support around 400 every year. Not only in our main campus, the workshop even undertook orthopedic camps in tsunami affected Andaman and Nicobar Islands and provided artificial limbs to physically challenged persons, who were severely affected by tsunami.
