Message from Sukesh Barui

My dear friends,

It is my great privilege and honor to pen the message in the annual report for the financial year 2016-2017. It is the time for annual stock taking reflections and plans.2016-2017 is the year in which Asha Bhavan Centre has completed 18 years of its eventful journey.

The year 2016-2017 we faced a lot of challenges to execute our Mission since the flow of fund shrinkages due to economic recession all over the globe. However, timely effective steps taken by our management team that enabled us to overcome the challenges. Here is our strength. The world respects strength. I believe with this strength we will create a Barrier Free World with the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities.

This year some projects are modified according to the need of the hour. The home for children with Disabilities at Kathila has been modified for girls” only and boys have been rehabilitated with their parents. Our Community Rehabilitation Centre’s are monitoring and providing therapy and special education to those boys beneficiaries. At Keoradanga, a new initiative has taken to open a second Home for children with disabilities. To provide more therapeutic support three new Community Rehabilitation Centers are started functioning at Mathabhanga and Ghoksadanga Coochbehar and Keoradanga, South 24 parganas. The mentally challenged women who are rehabilitated to their family members are receiving clinical help and counseling free of cost from our outpatient department at Kathila and Keoradanga.

During the session Rehabilitation Council of India approved training course D.Ed. Spl. Education (MR) for 25 students within our Kathila campus. Again, inclusion of children with disabilities with the mainstream education system initiated in our education project as a Mission to bring about transformation in the society to make our society more just, more equal, more Humane and more harmonious. This year one more success we have achieved. Our children with disabilities participated in the National Para Olympic Competition organized at Jaipur, Rajasthan and won gold, silver and bronze medals.

I am pleased to announce that in recognition of our services Dept. of Women & Child Development, Govt. of West Bengal and Dept. of Disability Affairs under Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt. of India conferred awards in the category of Best Individual and Best Institution working for the empowerment of persons with disabilities.

In this financial year 2016-2017 we are able to empower the powerless of 13,576 PwDs, children and women across the country.

All these things couldn’t have happened without total commitment of my colleagues and family members who are conscientious, competent, compassionate, and committed. At this juncture of transformation of our activities my mind is burdened with worries due to serious illness of our Beloved Dominique Dada, our Mentor. Always praying to God for his quick recovery from illness .I convey my sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all our friends, well-wishers and patrons. Asha Bhavan is here because of you and I pray for your Health and Happiness. May God Bless you all. I believe that Divine Inspiration with Human collaboration makes this Institution a Center of Excellence.
