LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT

ABC management has been involved in reengineering the existing project management to meet the plans and actions and make it more efficient, accountable and transparent. The ABC management has taken a series of steps to ensure that a smooth and efficient system is put in place. Being an organization working with differentially challenged persons, ABC management has ent itself. The organization will support and encourage an open work culture wherein the skills and efficiency of the personnel will be extracted and amply recognized.

Taken the policy of equal employment opportunity to physically disabled persons. They will be encouraged to apply and given priority in terms of selection and career development.

The functions of ABC day-to-day management are decentralized. A competent coordinator who will be given functional autonomy heads each division. A detailed organizational development plan is being worked out that will ensure improved skills and competence of the workers.
 
ABC has also plans to invite corporate managers to come forward and share their learning and experience with ABC team. This will be promoted under ABC-Corporate Partnership Scheme. In addition, ABC is planning a series of campaigns and programs to involve the common public in its movement towards providing better services and rehabilitation to disabled persons.
 
The governing body of ABC will appoint a team of advisors to facilitate cross-sectoral discussions and observations. The advisors will be specialists in respective disciplines, which will meet regularly and evaluate the functions and projects.
 
There is an internal monitoring system that constantly monitors the programs and financials of the organization. Involvement of beneficiaries and community members is made mandatory in monitoring of projects. Participatory approach is the strategy being generally considered for overall management of ABC. The organizational management committee is the top implementing body, working as per the advice of governing body in putting shape to the policies and strategic plans. Respective project management committees are involved in managing various projects.
 
Ms. Sukeshi Barui, a community health nurse with over 30 years of committed social work and grassroots service, is the founder and secretary of ABC. She combines a missionary zeal to her leadership by demonstration method and offers space and scope for all under her to grow and contribute to the organization. She is ably assisted by the Director, who is in charge of day-to-day operations and a team of professionals and experts who are managing various projects of ABC.

 The city office in Kolkata is engaged in public relations and fund raising exercise, a new area that ABC has undertaken to attract local people to its initiatives.


 
ABC is a fully equipped organization. The key list of facilities available in ABC is given below:

§  Building of roughly 40,000 sft covered area that accommodates 400 beneficiaries

§  Staff quarters, dining hall with sufficient sanitation and drainage

§  Training room with dormitory facilities for up to 30 trainees

§  Doctor’s chambers and visiting patients sitting room

§  Guest rooms with simple and decent guest facilities

§  Fully functional office with computer networking (15 machines), fax, photocopier, scanning, projector, colour printing, binding and laminating solutions

§  Email and phone

§  School buildings in 14 different areas

§  Four 4-wheelers, six two wheelers and a mini bus

§  Open ground with garden

§  Fully secured campus in serene, peaceful environment

There are over 200 members in ABC team including eight functional department heads, professionals, technicians, social workers, physiotherapists, counselors, support team, administrative and accounts team. Many of the managers and coordinators who are directly involved in working with children are qualified as per Rehabilitation Council of India guidelines. All physiotherapists are diploma holders. The average age of is below thirty, which makes ABC one of the youngest and most vibrant organizations that nurtures creative talent and leadership in its team members.
